Old Delhi Sightseeing Tour
Red Fort
The Red Fort is also known as Lal Quila which had been the erstwhile
residence of the Mughal Rulers. It situated in the heart of Delhi,
Chandani Chowk. The fort was built by Shah Jahan when the capital
was shifted from Agra to Delhi. Several building s are housed
within, Diwan-i-Aam, Moti Masjid, Nahr-i-Bashi, and
Diwan-i-Khaas. The architecture is built with the combination
of three styles- Persian, Indian and Timurid. The Red Fort is closed
on Mondays.
Jama Masjid
Jama Masjid of Delhi is one of the largest mosques in India. The
masjid was built in Islamic style in the 16th century by Shah Jahan,
the Mughal emperor, who also built the Taj Mahal in Agra. Up to
twenty-five thousand people can gather in its courtyard at the same
time. The structure was built by three types of stones- Red
Sandstone, Marble and Sand Stone.
Raj Ghat
Rajghat is a memorial of Mahatma Gandhi and here many people visit
this place barefoot to pay homage to the father of nation, Mahatma
Gandhi. Within the complex, a museum lies, which depicts the whole
life of Mahatma Gandhi. There are some other memorials dedicated to
Rajiv Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Chandra
Shekhar Azad, I K Gujral etc.
New Delhi Sightseeing Tour
Qutub Minar
The Qutub Minar is the UNESCO World Heritage Site which is 73 meters
tall. This tower of victory is a five-story building and its
construction was initiated by Qutab-ud-din in 1193 and later
completed by his successor, Itutmish. Click the pictures of the
tower from the different angles. Within the Qutub Minar complex,
several structures lie- Ala’I Minar, Ala’i-Darwaza, 7
meters tall which is the tallest building in India.
Humayun’s Tomb
Humayun’s Tomb is another UNESCO World Heritage Site in Delhi.
This tomb was built by Hamida Banu Begum, also known as Haji Begum,
in the memory of his husband, Humayun's after fourteen years of
his death. The architecture was built with the combination of
Persian and Mughal style. Some graves of Mughal rulers are also
housed within the tomb.
Lotus Temple
The Lotus Temple is in the form of a white lotus petal and dedicated
to the Baha’I Faith but it is open for everyone irrespective
of religion or gender. This edifice is the best place to
meditate as you get the peaceful atmosphere inside the temple. The
temple is dotted with beautiful garden and pools. The white marble
structure is composed of 27 lotus petals and 9 doors which leads to
natural lighting inside the prayer hall where 2500 people can sit
together.
The India Gate
This is memorial built in the memory of Indian Army Soldiers who
died during World War I. Visitors arrive here to pay tribute to
those martyrs. The edifice looks beautiful in the night due to its
lighting effects. The Amar Jawan Jyoti had been installed later in
the memory of the soldiers who died during Indo-Pak War. A flame is
burnt out every time to remember the sacrifices of the Martyrs. Near
by the India Gate, drive past the Parliament House, Rashtrapati
Bhawan (or President’s House) and Secretariat
Buildings.
After the sightseeing of the above major attractions, you will be

Drive towards Agra and upon arrival, proceed to visit the following

Taj Mahal
History
Visit the great historical monument- Taj Mahal, which was built by
Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan as a memorial for his wife, Mumtaz; who
died after giving birth to their 14th child. After the completion of
the Taj Mahal, Shah Jahan was imprisoned in Agar Fort by his son
cruel son – Aurangzeb. At that time, Shah Jahan could
only gaze at the Taj Mahal form the small window of the prison.
After the death of Shah Jahan , he was buried besides the grave of
Mumtaz.
Architecture
The Taj Mahal is a white marbled architecture, lies on the banks of
Yamuna River which took almost 20 years in completion. After
that, Shah Jahan said – “The Taj Mahal has made the sun
and the moon shed tears from their eyes.”This monument is
bounded by three gates in the three different directions- East, West
and South. It was built with Mughal style and also known as the
Crown of Palaces. Inside the mausoleum, the graves of Mumtaz and
Shah Jahan lie in the basement of the central chamber. It is
believed that Shah Jahan had cut off the hands of all the labors so
nobody can built the similar piece of architecture in future. The
chief architect was Ustad Ahmad.
The Taj Mahal is declared as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
It had been also enlisted as one of the seven wonders for few
years.
Note- The Taj Mahal is closed every Friday.
Agra Fort
Visit the Agra Fort, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is
inspired from the Indo-Islamic architecture. The fort is also known
as Red Fort due to usage of the red sandstones in the architecture.
This fort was also built by the same architect – Ustad Ahmad,
who built the Taj Mahal. Shah Jahan, the mughal emperor spent eight
years of his life in the prisoner of the Agra Fort by the orders of
his son, Aurangzeb. The fort is bounded by some courtyards-
Diwan-i-Am, Diwan-i-Khas (Hall of private Audiences), Sheesh Mahal
(Palace of Mirrors), Musamman Burj, Khas Mahal, Anguri Bagh,
Jehangir’s Palace and Hauz-i-Jehangir. Mina Masjid was the
private mosque used by Shah Jahan. The main entrance is towards the
Amar Singh Gate.
In the afternoon, depart for Delhi by road. You will be dropped at
Delhi hotel/airport for the onward journey.
